OUR HISTORY

About the Founder

Hi, Welcome to Miami Food Review™! My names is Sergio Calzado, I have been a Florida native for more than 32 years. Like many of us in South Florida, I am a transplant from the north. Grew up in New Jersey and spent almost two years traveling as far as Cyprus, Israel, Greece, The Greek Islands, Italy, Switzerland, England, Spain, France and since 1977 have called Miami home.  I have always had a taste for new cultures and great food.  One of my favorite channels is the food or travel channels and enjoy emersing myself in the cultures, traditions and native cuisines.

Before moving to Miami, my family and I would spend our summer vactions on Maimi Beach, way before the new South Beach was born, I remember the original Art Deco Miami Beach, when it was packed to capacity with vacationers from the North East.   Since my first trip to Miami in 1969 I remember one thing, I always looked forward to going to dinner with my parents and family. Many of the restaurants from those days are no longer around, but they were great, like the Centro Vasco on southwest 8th street, or Bilbao on Flagler, Lila's Restaurant on southwest 8th street with the palomilla steak and mountain of fries or El Capitan off the MacArther Causeway one of the best sea food places in town, (today there are high rise condos on this location), and what happened to all the LUM's?

In 1969 I remember seeing Miami as a village with lights, in the mid 70's I saw it as a bigger village with more lights and today Miami has grown into a multi-cultural metropolis with a diverse selection of dining establilshments from every nationality and culture around the world. Yet somehow, Miami still has a small, hometown feel.

Many of us natives refer to where we live as Miami, but what makes Miami the city it has become are the surrounding neighborhoods, communities and cities - each having a unique style and "flavor".

Our focus at "Miami Food Review" is to provide our visitors with a web space dedicated to eateries in and around the Miami area. We are not a restaurant rating group like "Zagat", we are not food critiques, we are not professional chef's or gastronomical specialists, we are just like you.  We enjoy eating out, having fun and finding new and great places to either have lunch, a great breakfast, enjoy a romantic evening at an elegant restaurant, dance the night away at a club, or just hangout with friends at our favorite eatery or wateringhole.

We will post places to eat which will range from the top rated restaurants, to the neighborhood cafe, to the corner bistro or the hole in the wall dive we may find. It is all about good food, great ambiance and having fun.  What may be a 5 star restaruant for me, may not even make it on your list.  This site is for you to enjoy, add comments, add posts, let us know what you would like to see, what you think.  This site is all about you, the great people who live in our communities and cities and those visiting our Magic City.

For those of you who are Foodie fanatics, I encourage you to become a "contributing editor" for the Miami Food Review. Help me make this the number one Foodie web portal in South Florida.
